I was the first person the physical therapist at home had treated with vaginismus, but there I was #751!*
Hello! I recently completed treatment at The Women’s Therapy Center in New York and last Friday, April 16, 2010, I had my first pain-free, successful gynecological exam (not to mention pain-free intercourse with my husband over the past three weeks)!
I never truly believed I would see this day. I had pretty severe primary vaginismus – could not insert anything, had a great deal of anxiety, and intense pain – and tried pretty much everything over the past 10 years to try to overcome it. I worked through a self-help program for about a year and a half, and just couldn’t get past D2, and eventually got frustrated (and overwhelmed with other things going on in my life). After a while of pretending nothing was wrong and living in a roommate-type relationship with my husband, I finally decided I needed more help. I sought out the Women’s Therapy Center and arranged for treatment in March.
If you have been struggling with vaginismus, I would highly recommend taking a moment to check out the Women’s Therapy Center. The two doctors who run the center are incredible women, with immense knowledge in gynecology and sexology, as well as an incredible experience. To give you an example, I was the first person the physical therapist at home had treated with vaginismus, but there I was #751! This is what they do every day, and my case – while extremely difficult for me and for the practitioners who tried to help me – was fairly routine for them. That is not to say that I was just another patient. Their compassion, dedication, and involvement are incredible, and I can honestly say that I’ve never met another clinician in the medical community who comes close to the level of care they provide.
The treatment program is intensive, but they are completely dedicated to your success and have a proven method that WORKS! I met multiple other women during my treatment there, and all were either in the final stages or have since overcome their vaginismus.
I know that there are some skeptics or critics out there, and I’m not looking to debate the treatment process. Vaginismus is not a one-size-fits-all condition, and likewise, treatment is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The self-help program is amazing, and for those who can keep progressing with it, I am SO glad it is an available option. For me, and possibly for some others who have been trying for a long time, it wasn’t enough. Some women may need more medical attention and/or hand-holding through the process, and for those who do, the WTC is the perfect place to seek treatment.
I would HIGHLY recommend the Women’s Therapy Center to ANYONE struggling with vaginismus – whether it’s been less than a year or twenty years – because if you place your trust in Dr. Katz and Dr. Tabisel and work with them, you will find relief. You will be cured. You just have to take that first step…and they’ll guide you and be with you for all the remaining ones. It’s scary and can be a leap of faith for some, but it changed my life and I couldn’t have won this fight without Ross & Ditza. Take that first step…you won’t regret it*!
