Breastfeeding – current recommendations and tips

Posted by Ditza Katz in Women's Health 01 Apr 2016

“Evidence continues to mount regarding the benefits of breastfeeding for both women and their infants. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, with continued breastfeeding as complementary foods are introduced through the infant’s first year of life, or longer as mutually desired by the woman and her infant.  Unfortunately, breastfeeding rates in the United States are only 49% at six months and 27% at 12 months, well below the Healthy People 2020 target rates of 60.6% and 34.1%, respectively.”
