Tampon-short period?

Posted by womentc in Women's Health 04 Feb 2009

A common question: “How is it that my period seems to be shorter when I use tampons?”

Fact: a tampon cannot regulate your hormones nor your menstrual cycle.

However, the tampon’s position just below the uterus makes it for efficient absorption of the menstrual blood as it exits the uterus.  In other words, instead of the blood streaming down the vagina and its folds (rugae), the blood gets absorbed right away thus giving the impression of a shorter period.
