Vaginismus: The story of a Jewish Orthodox couple

We are an Orthodox Jewish couple. When we first went to Women’s Therapy Center we were married for around a year and a half. The reason why we went was because my husband and I were having a challenging time having intercourse. Ever since we got married I would often tighten up during intercourse making it challenging or impossible for my husband to enter. I would tighten up because of the fear which I had because I found intercourse painful. We did not do anything about it at first hoping that it would stop being painful and that I would just learn to open up by myself.

After giving birth a year into our marriage, we were not able to have intercourse at all because I would always tighten up so much that it was impossible for my husband to enter whenever we tried.

I called my OBGYN to ask her what she thought we should do because I wanted to be able to be more open when we tried intercourse. She suggested we go to Women’s Therapy Center. I decided to call them to see if they would be able to help me. We went in for a consultation visit and they told me that they would be able to help. I was a little discouraged at first because of the price of the therapy. In the end I did go through with the therapy and I am very glad that I did. All of the time and expenses were worth it.

Now we are able to have intercourse successfully without it being painful for me. There have even been times that I have enjoyed having intercourse.

I give that tribute to all the wonderful people at Women’s Therapy Center. Their friendliness and patience with me have helped me tremendously. I would like to thank Dr. Katz, Dr. Tabisel, Dr. Lauren Stietzle, and Sloane Tabisel for helping me.

Thanks again,
