Recently reported by a patient: “My doctor suggested I use carrots to treat my primary vaginismus because they are cheaper than dilators and good for the vaginal skin…”
If you still chuckle, consider this: in reality, what can fit in the vagina? Any object that mimics a penis: long, somewhat thick, and smooth in texture. Carrot, zucchini, cucumber, candle, vaginal dilators — there are many options that our patients considered, or used. Some even tried a syringe given by their physician (ouch).
Clinically speaking, while penetration training can use different objects, treatment of vaginismus calls for a psycho-physical intervention.
